It picks up a signal very well, in less than a miunte, and I live in Pennsylvania. Just give it some time the first time around until the watch learns how to calibrate to satellites in a given location. I ran a towpath under some fairly thick tree cover last night and it tracked the entire 7 miles, although it seemed confused on my pace a few times. Also, the Nike+ workout summary indicated I'd run back on a path right next to the outgoing run path, but in fact I ran back on the same trail. That threw off the total distance of the run about 1/10 of a mile. When I did track work on Tuesday, it was dead accurate, so I imagine the trees interfered a bit last night. Remember, though, that with this watch even if you lose a signal it will revert to the shoe pod backup and the pod is calibrated to your stride by the GPS.If you're like me and you like technology to be user-friendly so you can focus on more important things than learning how to fiddle with another gadget, you'll love this watch. On that note, if you're running a Mac and Safari is your default browser, you may find you need to run Firefox as your default instead to launch the Nike+ website. That, plus you'll likely need to restart your computer after you've installed the GPS watch software (it doesn't prompt you to restart). Good luck! I'm very happy with the watch so far.

i totally get what youre saying, but the only time i ever feel it is necessary to run is when something is chasing you. and the beliefs i stand by most firmly are that if god had intended me to walk anywhere he would not have provided me with 4 wheels. im a speed junkie but you can never hit 180 on an open road pounding the pavement. but hats off to you, its awesome that you do that
